I've been struggling with anxiety and depression since I was about 13, and have had my ups and downs since then. I'm 22 now (nearly 23) and while I am in a great university and have some great friends, for the past 2 or 3 years my depression has been debilitating.

I think I need to rant/talk about stuff... Got long. )

I doubt there's anything anyone can suggest or say that will help. Getting that all out only marginally helped. Thanks for reading though? I'm open to suggestions, just not very hopeful at this point. Feel free to delete if this is too long-winded or whatever to be here.

Tweaks and Enhancements

  1. The search is on: We've replaced our default search tool with one from Yandex, a leader in search engine technology. This means you'll get smarter, more granular results! To get started, enter your search terms and click the Go button to the left of the Find box on the upper right of the LiveJournal header. This will take you to the search landing page where you can further refine by Entries, Comments, People & communities, and FAQs. You can also access the search page directly.
  2. Whitelisting: We've released a new option to help you moderate your busy communities more efficiently. If an entry contains a link to a whitelisted (i.e., trusted) site, it will be posted automatically without need for moderator approval. If a post contains a link that is not on the whitelist, you'll be prompted to approve. To access this option, please visit settings for any community you maintain and select the third option in the Community Moderation box (located in the lower left-hand corner). Click the enable link to custom-edit your community's whitelist, which has been prepopulated with trusted domains. You can manually add or delete URLs in the text box. Please note: If you're the maintainer of an unmoderated community, you may see the radio button for this setting checked, even though it's not active. This is a known issue. Please select whichever option you prefer and click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. If you're happy with your current settings, then no need to do anything!
  3. TMI, dude: We've added some fun FREE sponsored vgifts! You can send up to 50 TMI vgifts to mutual friends (btw, you cannot send free vgifts to communities). If you're a Paid/Permanent user and you want to view sponsored gifts, click Show sponsored gifts on your homepage or visit the sponsored gift page. I posted this in another community the other day and got no responses, so I thought I'd try you guys:

Okay, so I have a sizing dilemma. I'd like to knit a doll's sweater for a doll that's about 11 inches tall. The problem is that the pattern I have is for an 18 inch tall doll, and the circumference needs to be cut down from the 13 inches the pattern would create to about 9 inches, and I have no idea how to alter a pattern that way. =/

The fair isle design on the sweater doesn't even need to the same, as long as I can get the basic sweater shape done properly.

Thank you in advance. =)

The past 2 or so weeks I've had the most annoyingly itchy/sensitive nipples. I swear a 36DD, so you can understand that they bounce around a lot, and thus scrape against my bras/shirts. This never used to be a problem, but they have been so itchy as of late. I just feel them all the time - the only way I don't feel the itchy/sensitivity is if I literally just crush them down into a pillow while laying on my stomach, or if I squeeze them to numb them up. I'm afraid I'm going to damage tissue soon because I've seriously had enough of this.

What the hell is the problem? My BC pill taking was haphazard the last week before my period - had to take two on tuesday, one on wednesday, and I ended up missing my last three. It all started that week, so are my hormones just going insane? I know they aren't growing, cause that makes my entire breast itch, but this is just centered on the nipples - mostly my right one.

what can I do to relieve this? I've been using benadryl cream, and it burns real bad, but gets the job done.

For a christmas present, I made a tie, and now I need to put a lining on the back. However, I don't have great sewing skills, and have no idea how to do this so that it doesn't effect the knitting but also looks like a clean seam. Can anyone give me any hints? Thanks!

Sooooo it's winter - finally getting cold,
which for me means little, teeny-tiny bumps on my face that almost look like whiteheads or acne?! They are on my chin and I have a few above my upper lip.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I'm scared to put steroidal creams on my face.

Hey, back with a new question :)

I just got my B/C refilled when I got pnemonia. I had been regularly taking the BC for about 4 days and started my antibiotics, I was so sick I just didn't take my BC, a couple of days later I started bleeding. and having cramps like a normal period. which made me even more miserable...

I started the pack of BC right after my latest period so I was not due and now I've been steadily discharging redish, now brown fluid. actually it only appears on my tiolet paper never really comes out other wise...

Is this normal because of irregular use of BC and antibiotics? Never had this happen before. There's really not much chance I'm pregnant.

Sorry in advance for the double-post... this is kind of a follow-up to my last one a couple days ago...

Has anyone here had experience with EpiCeram? I just remembered I had a tube of it. My dermatologist prescribed it when I went for to get my Clobex script renewed, and I filled the script, used it once and put it away because I didn't like how it felt on my skin. Not that it was bad or anything, just kind of slick and weird and inconvenient.

But! I found the bottle and it's safe to use on the face, so I think I'm going to try using it on my scaly-eyelid-problem... I don't think the weird slick texture will bother me quite so much when it's not on my hands. I'm going to see if I can stand putting it on my hands, too, since it's supposed to be super good for your skin and help you retain moisture and my hands are DEFINITELY suffering now that it's winter...

Shall I let you know how this experiment turns out? :)

I'm 16, I've been getting my period since I was 12, and I've been seeing this regular pattern kind of occur lately, which I'm not sure if it should ring any alarms or not. I'm a constant yo-yo dieter, I've been bulimic since I was 13, and I'm very anemic. So I kind of just roll with my body being sporadic and I never think much on it. But lately, my periods have been waaaay out of whack. The pattern is basically like this: Regular, regular, week late, three months late.

I got my period today for the first time in about three, maybe four months. I don't know if this is alarming or not, especially seeing as my eating habits definitely effect my flow.

I'd like to see an OBGYN, but my mom is pretty old fashioned. For her, me seeing a gynecologist means me having sex. I'm still a virgin, but I really think I need to see one. How would I convince my mom, who I don't think even wants to think about me at the gynecologist that it's a good idea?

So I know this guy. He's my ex-boyfriend. I've liked him ever since the start of high school when he started replying to posts I made in my blog. He entranced me from the start. He was intellectual, intelligent, understanding, and just one of the most remarkable people I ever met. I started posting in my blog just to see him reply. I would check every moment I could to see if he'd made a statement yet. At my friend's house I begged her to help me find out who I was.

I found out. And I asked him to a movie. I made up some story about how my mom didn't want to let me go to a movie, and attempted to make him think that he was my only option left. But really, I just wanted to meet this fellow and find out what made him tick, who he was, and what he could mean to me.

That day was and still is one of the happiest days in my life. I'd never felt so comfortable with someone so quickly. I didn't want that day to end. The more I knew him the more I respected him.

And then eventually, over time, during a time when he was hurting over another girl I was trying to comfort him, offer him advice, despite how much I wanted that girl to be me. Eventually he became my Forever. The only person I could ever picture myself belonging to.

But when my time came, I was happy. He'd chosen me and I thought we'd be together forever. But I was emotionally undeveloped, and mentally ill. I wasn't ready for a relationship but I tried anyway, not knowing what would happen. In the end he had tried to deal with me and my illness and my general confusion over who I was and what I wanted. I'd hurt him, and I'd ruined what I now know was the best thing that ever happened to me.

And so today I screwed up royally. I did something stupid. Again. And now I'm left without him.
I would love for us to be able to be friends again. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this and all my feelings?

I wanted to find a good adult gummy vitamin. I am female, not at risk for osteoperosis, and am dealing with fatigue. I am thinking I am iron deficient -- or maybe nutritionally deficient all around.

Can anyone recommend a gummy vitamin that has iron in it? What store carries them? Is there one that has 100% of essentially everything?

Also, does the pill help with PMS mood swings? I get terrible, almost debilitating depression right before my period and wanted to know how I can stop this.

Thanks.

Hello all, I'll just get straight down to the point. Just looking for maybe a few opinions before I decide on anything.

Until recently, I've had very regular periods. The last year has been extremely stressful and I had a significant amount of weight gain. In May, after stopping my birth control pills I haven't had a period since. I am sexual active (we use condoms) and I've taken four pregnancy tests, all negative. Two weeks ago, after sex, I began bleeding, quite a bit. There was no pain, no pain during sex or after. I figured it was just my period finally catching up; it lasted a few days and that was it. Last week I started bleeding again and again it tappered off. A few days ago the same thing. It just keeps coming and going varying between light and heavy.

Would it be a good time to make an appointment? That was my original idea, but cash is very low and Id jus tlike maybe a second opionion so to speak (i know you're not medical professionals, but thank you very much in advanced)

I picked up some really pretty self stripping yarn at the craft store and I was wondering if anyone had any good scarf patterns that would work nice with self striping yarn? I'm still at a beginners level but I know all the basic skills so far so just nothing TOO difficult. I've been searching and so far can' find anything for self stripping yarn.
Thanks :)

Need some advice.
My firstborn son (now 3) is allergic to milk. We found this out when we gave him milk formula. The first time he threw it up. The doctors told me that was normal and to give him 2 oz at a time mixed with breast milk, I did that, he became ill, we ended up in the hospital. His reactions include a rash and tummy issues, and we do see an allergist once a year.
My second son (1 month old) already spent two weeks in the hospital due to an unknown illness that caused him to turn septic and almost die. He’s home now, and healthy, but won’t breastfeed anymore. I’ve been pumping for him, around the clock, but I do not like pumping. Anyway, so we gave him soy formula, which he threw up. Again, the doctors said this could be normal, and try 2 oz mixed. I did this, and he threw that up. So, I’m not giving him any more soy formula. Am I nuts for thinking of trying milk formula? He did not have any rashing or anything with the soy formula. I’m not sure if he is allergic or just has a sensitive tummy. I have been eating like normal (read, not avoiding any foods at all) and he has been fine on breast milk.
Where should I go? What formula should I try? Any advice? I’ve got about 2 weeks worth of frozen breast milk, and my supply is still okay, so I don’t have to rush, but I do want to stop pumping before I go back to work.
TIA :)

Just curious - but does anyone know if it's true that each time you're exposed to an allergen, the reaction becomes worse?

I ask because I was exposed to hazelnuts quite a bit last fall (I studied abroad and the cooks at the school always told me there wasn't hazelnut in the food, when in fact there was) and the last reaction I had there was really awful. Now I can't even be around things with a lot hazelnuts in them because the smell makes my throat start to close up.

But, although I'm allergic to all tree nuts, I accidentally ate something with pecans in it and the reaction wasn't nearly as bad, but I don't think I've ever ingested pecans before.

Hopefully this isn't a really strange question!

Hi guys,
I have just discovered Lifestyle Bakery's range of products. It turns out that they have been supplying to the other Australian states for 10 years or more but only now have they decided to enter Western Australia. Gotta say I couldn't be happier but I wish there had been this variety in Perth earlier!

I bought some of their gluten free pizza bases, their bread crumbs and their Chia Seed and Raisin loaf the other day and MAN O MAN what have we been missing in Perth! Doesn't seem like there are a lot of stores stocking their products yet but I hope they pick up. I got mine at Wembley Supa IGA.

www.lifestylebakery.com.au is their website and you can see their range of products there as well as retailers.

Senate tables Nelson's abortion amendment 54-45
The Hill Blog
By Michael O'Brien - 12/08/09 05:33 PM ET

Senators voted Tuesday afternoon to set aside a healthcare amendment that would have curbed federal support for abortion coverage.

Senators voted to table a measure from Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Pa.) that would have banned the government from offering insurance plans in a national healthcare exchange that cover abortion.

The amendment, which needed 60 votes to pass and was not expected to be adopted, was tabled in a 54-45 vote.

**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

Ok, so to start I have two kinds of eczema: Nummular/Discoid and Atopic. The Atopic doesn't seem to have been ever linked to any actual allergy that we have ever tested for or noticed. It mostly just flares up bad if irritated by anything like soap or detergent. However, having Nummular/Discoid is really making things difficult, especially now that it's getting colder here, which makes it worse.

The 2 are feeding off of each other at this point, I swear, and anything will set it off. Too cold of weather, too hot of a bath, random itch on my leg, an ingrown hair on my arm, not enough moisturizer/lotion, too much of any irritant. Heck, I can't even figure out how to shave my legs anymore. I shave and the mere act of it irritates my legs, the hair growing back in makes me itch, but if I go too long without shaving it's worse than the first 2. I tried waxing, hair removal lotions, etc and the result is still the same, in that I will still itch like crazy and have a flare up for one reason or another. And ingrown hair will make all hell break loose.

If I get the Nummular/Discoid first the itching brings on the Atopic, and if it's Atopic first then the more irritated it gets, it turns into Nummular/Discoid (normally from a scab, or an ingrown hair from the Atopic flare up). I can't seemt o break this cycle no matter what. I've been trying to wear more tall socks to prevent anything brushing against my legs, or me from scratching too much. I've got a lovely amount of Hyperpigmentation going on that just took me months to get rid of from this summer. There's several nights a month where I have to bandage and then ace bandage my legs to stop from itching anymore, and let it heal. Some nights that I don't apparently, in my sleep I feel the need to remove the skin on my legs, and then I wake up with a huge flare up.

I've been using Betamethasone Dipropionate lotion for years, and while it helps the flare up initially, it burns like hell, and then drys out the area even more, and makes it itch more. Last year I had some success with some homeopathic and natural remedies, but this year it's not making a dent in this at all. Of course with the Nummular/Discoid, even if the entire area clears up, it'll come right back in a week, the same spot, and bigger and meaner than before.

Does anyone have any advice at all for this situation? I know that not many have Nummular/Discoid, but I figure someone might have some suggestions! I need to head back to the doctor at some point soon, but that won't happen til after the holidays most likely.

We had sex monday morning, we didnt use a condom. its now saturday. today i have decided i have a UTI bc it just burns down there and it burns when i pee. i told my guy that i think i have another uti bc about 3-4 weeks ago i had a UTIbut i was clean and im never dirty so i was like wtf. well he told me that since we had sex the past few days he had burning sensation when he peed and it was unusual for him. so now im kinda worried bc the recent time i have had problems he hasnt and now we BOTH have the same symptoms. could he possiablly have a UTI also?

like im sitting down right now and it burns down there. i kinda haev the urge to pee when i stand up but nothing hardcore to make me run to the bathroom. it does burn when i pee. my urine is cloudy and very little.

im pretty embarassed and i hope its just a UTI.

should I worry?
i dont think im on my parents insurance and i dont have 125 bucks to go to plan parenthood.

Icons inspired by illustrations warning of the dangers of electrocution -- horror (and humor) among the mundane…or whatever you may conjure. Mild nsfw warning: violent themes against men, women, children, and animals + a bit of corse language.

I have a feeling that I am really unhealthy. My weight is an issue. Tomorrow I am starting a "diet" to count my calories, and exercise for at least 30 mins a day, 5 days a week. I'm addicted to caffine. I can drink up to 4 or 5 sodas a day. And if I don't have a soda, I go through caffine withdrawals, and end up having really horrible migraine headaches for days, and eventually just throwing up until I get a coke. Do you guys know of anything that can help out with caffine withdrawals? I'm going for the no soda thing if you guys didn't catch on.

I'm really scared, meh. :(

I would rather go through horrible headaches than be overweight, but.. I end up giving in and grabbing a coke and downing some asprin. I need an alternative.

Advice?

Anybody have any tried and true gluten and dairy free cookie recipies, preferably the kind you roll out and cut into shapes? I've got a couple of kids helping me with holiday goodies and I thought it might be a fun project to do together. And if you have one that's GF that's a big hit but doesn't roll out, that's ok too. Sugar free that doesn't use Splenda or Nutrasweet in it are even better. i have a couple of diabetics coming too.

Just no oatmeal or peanut cookies, please. I have a ton of both already.
